Crack Chex Party Mix
The Iconic Chex Party Mix gets a sweet twist with pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a hint of dark chocolate. Chex Cereal becomes Crack Chex Party Mix! Irresistible, crunchy, and totally addicting. Whip up a batch to give some to your holiday guests! That is if you don’t eat it all first:)
What is Crack Chex Party Mix? Let me explain…
I grew up eating Chex Cereal and I have to say that I am so mad that now they have all these great flavors! My mom only bought the corn or rice varieties! Kids are so spoiled these days.
Cinnamon, chocolate, apple? I want to revert back to my childhood and get to eat these on Saturday morning while I am watching the Smurfs!
Of course, we always had Chex Party Mix around. I loved making the iconic Chex Party Mix recipe and adding in pretzels and peanuts.

How to Make Crack Chex Party Mix
First: Heat oven to 250F. Mix the Chex Cereals, pecans, and cinnamon in a large baking dish, lined with non-stick foil or with foil and sprayed with non-stick spray.
Second: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the butter and the brown sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once it starts to boil, let boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Third: When 5 minutes are up, remove from heat and add the vanilla and baking soda. Whisk quickly. It will start to foam and bubble when you add these two.
Fourth: Pour over your Chex Cereal Mixture and stir quickly to coat all the cereal and pecans. Once all is coated, place in the oven and bake for an hour, stirring every 15 minutes. When the hour is up, let cool completely. If you want to add the chocolate drizzle, melt your chocolate either in the microwave or a double boiler on the stove top.

I am just finishing up a batch of this and the caramel is not melting enough to mix everything together well (at the 15 minute stir times)! I feel like letting the caramel mixture boil for 5 minutes was too long? My heat was at medium and it didn’t burn so I’m not sure what went wrong. Not sure it’s worthy of even giving out as gifts 🙁
Not sure what you mean by melting enough? Was the caramel mixture runny when you poured on the cereal mixture? Was it still too runny when you baked it? Can you clarify where you are having the problem (during the caramel making or the baking part) then I can add more details.
Thanks
This is a great snack! I am so going to make this and keep a jar of it next to me, especially when i am writing my next post 😛
It makes a great muse:)
I love the idea of gifting this party mix. It would look great in pretty bags or vintage jars.
Great hostess and teacher gifts too!

I love ANY kind of chex mix… although in my family we call our version Scrabble? I think its because we always ate it while playing scrabble when I was a kid! I love the sweet alternate you’re sharing… Pinned this! 🙂
My MIL calls it trash. Not a flattering name but still works…
Crack indeed! I can imagine being completely addicted to this stuff 😀 Looks and sounds amazing!!
I think I could sell it for more than any other street drug:)
This looks dangerously addictive!!! I’d be in serious danger of eating the whole batch in one sitting, I’d have to seal the packaging to make sure I don’t devour it all!
Would love to receive little baggies of these as a gift too
I have done that already so no judgement here:) These made great teachers gifts…
I love snacks like this. I can see becoming addicted to this yummy recipe!
Thanks Julie:)
Seriously, yum. I missed the chex mix thing growing up, it wasn’t something that my famiy made for some reason. I am loving this version though, it looks soooo good. I would love it if someone gave me a bag of this for Christmas! In the meantime I will have to make it myself.
Mine was always savory and had either hot sauce or rosemary. I love the sweet and the extra crunch.
This sounds so addictive!! I am totally never to be trusted around Chex Mix of any kind. Ever had puppy chow/muddy buddies?!? Oh holy lord, I really can’t leave that stuff alone.
Chex Mix is like my Achilles heel. I just know I’d never stop eating this sweet version.
Once I made it I only stopped when it was gone.

One of my very favorite things is taking relatively healthy foods and covering them with sugar and fat 😀 Buttery chocolate Chex? Yes please!
For sure!
Crack indeed! Here in Texas, we have tons of pecans, too, so I would have plenty to experiment with in this awesome looking treat. De-lish!
Thanks Dee Dee!
Chex mix is great, but home made Chex mix is so much better! This looks so yummy!
