Summer Sangria

I can’t believe that I have made it a full month here in Arizona! Whew, is it hot this time of year… I think it is time for another 3 ingredient cocktail to keep myself cooled down.

How about a fun and simple 3 ingredient sangria to kick off the weekend?

The past two weeks I have been doing a 3 ingredient cocktail series on the blog.

I think drinks should be easy and not fussy. You can’t get any easier than 3 ingredients.

Ok, you could with maybe two ingredients. Or even one, but then we are just doing shots at that point.  Not that there is anything wrong with shots. If you missed my cocktail shot series last year you will know that I love me some shots!

So last week I brought you a 3 ingredient margarita, which is arguably the best drink around. In my opinion, of course. But my Satsuma Orange Jubilee that kicked off the series is just as good.

Especially if you are in more of a rum mood versus a tequila mood.

But let’s not forget about wine as a great cocktail starter.

I love wine and have flip-flopped between my love of whites and reds. I started out drinking the really sweet white dessert wines. Then I progressed into the fruitier reds.

I have settled on Pinot Noirs and that is about as deep red as I will go.

In the summer though, I need something a little lighter on the palette. Not so rich with heavy fruits but more citrus notes.

This brings me full circle back to the sweeter white wines but not all the way back to the beginning. Thank goodness. That was a long journey. Let’s just enjoy the wine already!

The Pinot Grigios and Sauvignon Blancs are where I am landing this summer for a few reasons.

  1. I found some really good ones that I like to drink and they are less than 10$ a bottle. BONUS!
  2. They don’t weigh down my mouth in the summer when I am trying to eat lighter. It’s Freaking Hot Here!
  3. They pair well with juice and fruits that are abundant in the summer season!

This last reason is why I am a huge fan of sangria! Now, I love sangria with the fruity reds too but this, especially hot summer, I am sticking to my lighter whites.

Frozen melon balls and grapes keep your 3 Ingredient Sangria cold | Take Two Tapas | #Summer #Sangria #CocktailRecipe #SimpleCocktail #EasyWineCocktails

My favorite bottle of Pinot Grigio has melon and citrus notes in it. Perfect for mixing with a lemon-lime soda.

Use your favorite, no soda wars here, and a hint of Grand Marnier. Brandy is typical for sangria but I like the orange notes in the Grand Marnier as they pair well with the other citrus.

One bottle of Pinot Grigio, some Grand Mariner, and lemon-lime soda and you have a great 3 ingredient sangria for summer.

Minimal assembly required and will last for a day or two in the fridge! Just leave the ice out until you are ready to serve.

A great tip for keeping your sangria at full strength is to freeze your citrus, melon balls, and grapes the night before.

When you are ready to serve your sangria, just add these frozen goodies to the glass and you will have a chilled sangria, no water necessary!

It’s not summer by any means, but this worked great yesterday for a Bridal shower I had for a good friend. We made several batches and everyone loved it!

I can relate with the heat! Living in Fresno it gets almost as hot here and something light and bright is definitely in order. Pinning for summertime!

This looks great! And I love the idea of keeping the drink cold with frozen melon or fruit. Nice work!

This is my favorite summer sipper – good for sitting by the pool and enjoying the sunshine in AZ. Year round. Lol

  5. If you are still on moscato then I would start with a Flip Flop Pinto Grigio as it’s a little sweeter than some of the others. I also love Menage a Trois, Prophecy, Barefoot, and a white blend from Leftie! They are all great by themselves but are awesome for summer sangria!

I’m all for the Grigios and Blancs and I can’t wait to sit around with one of these beauties on a warm summer day!
