Walking Gyros (Greek Walking Tacos)
Take your walking tacos to a new level and serve Greek Walking Gyros instead! Same fun way to eat them but with Greek spiced lamb, feta, tzatziki sauce, and crushed pita chips!
Walking Gyros
Walking Gyros are a new version of a walking taco bar! I posted these party favorites last week with some variations on regular tacos.
If you exclusively use the Fritos and chili you are making portable Frito Pie, but I am taking another twist on the original with some Mediterranean flair. I’m a sucker for Greek food as you can tell by my gyro nachos, lamb sliders, and lamb meatballs.
Your favorite Gyro sandwich, full of that yummy seasoned lamb and topped with cool tzatziki sauce, is now easy to prepare and serve for a crowd!
Similar to my gyro nachos, these Walking Gyros are perfectly portioned for a party!

Ingredient Notes
- Pita Chips – Because gyros are normally eaten in Greek pita bread, I found it easy to use these pita chips. They even come in different flavors but I prefer the plain for this recipe.
- Ground Lamb – Cook the ground lamb in greek spices and keep warm in a slow cooker while serving. Substitute other ground meat like beef or chicken.
- Toppings – Use all your favorites like diced red onions, lettuce, cucumber, roasted red peppers, and Kalamata olives.

How To Make Walking Gyros
- Put all your toppings in bowls and gather the bags of chips. Cook the ground lamb in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain and set aside.
- Open the bag of pita chips to let out some air. Gently crush the chips.
- Add the ground lamb and your favorite toppings.
- Gently stir to mix and enjoy!
For the full recipe and detailed instructions, please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
Do I have to use plain pita chips?
No! Feel free to use plain, parmesan garlic and herb, or multigrain.
Can I make these ahead of time?
I would prepare the lamb and prep the toppings ahead of time but would wait to assemble them until right before eating.
Tapas Tips & Tricks
- Substitute the ground lamb for ground turkey or ground beef. Just use Greek seasoning. Even Greek chicken!
- Use all your favorite toppings like cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese, and olives.
- Pita chips are great but you can use regular pita bread if you prefer.

I have never tried lamb, but, will try this with beef. I don’t care for feta cheese, so will try laughing cow cheese wedges, cut into little cubes. I’m excited to try the sauce also.
hope you like it!
