Outback Blooming Onion Sauce
This copycat Outback blooming recipe is a lighter version of the famous dipping sauce from the famous steak house.
When you go, you have to order the Blooming Onion appetizer. I will admit that when we ate there I also dipped my steak and chicken in the sauce. Now that I’m sharing, let’s get real. I just dipped my fingers in it or ate it with a spoon.
Which is why I always made sure to order extra sauce on the side. If there was any left, I would take it home for later. Now you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home and you can dip however you like. No one watching!!
What about some chicken wings? Are you drooling yet?

Ingredients Needed
Mayo – You might have noticed that I love Dukes Real Mayo for all my recipes that use mayo. It’s the creamiest around. Feel free to use your favorite. I don’t recommend using Miracle Whip as it changes the flavor.
Ketchup – This is pretty standard and I don’t recommend using the sugar free or low sodium versions. They will change the overall flavor.
Sour Cream – Full fat, reduced fat, or fat free versions will work well. You can also use plain Greek yogurt.
Horseradish – This is a prepared horseradish which means it’s been ground and then mixed with vinegar and other spices. Be sure to get this and not fresh horseradish or horseradish sauce.
Herbs & Spices – Included in this recipe are paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt & pepper.

How long does it last?
If stored in the fridge in an air tight container, this sauce will keep for up to a week. But, in my house, it never makes it more than 24 hours.
Can I freeze it?
Because of the mayonnaise and the sour cream, it does nor freeze well. Good thing it makes just the right amount:)
Forget the trip to Outback Steakhouse. Grill and home and enjoy!

I had the same problem as the former comment. After reading that comment I made extra effort to shake off flour.
I’m making the blooming onion today as well to serve with brats. I made this sauce ahead of time. I omitted the oregano and used prepared horseradish, very good and on point.
Excellent. I made and served with the onion petals from Gordon’s. While the onions were in the air fryer I made the sauce and kept it in the fridge until serving time. And when I put it all together it was amazing!
You got the mayo right on the Bloom Sauce. Nothing else.
so glad you liked it!
@Tony Cloninger, agreed. I didn’t add salt, used prepared horseradish sauce, and cut the ketchup in half. Also, oregano? Solid no. Also put a dash of sour cream in for thickening , mixed. Used a dash of smoked paprika and spritz of fresh ground pepper, a very small amount of cayenne, mostly for color. Solid copycat.
