Ingredients Needed
Whole Milk – As I mentioned above whole milk will offer the best creamy texture and allow for a richer chocolate flavor to your drink. But feel free to use the % you use at home.
Half and Half or Heavy Cream – I didn’t want to stop at just milk. Add in some half and half or heavy cream for a richer and thicker cocoa.
Vanilla – Vanilla extract is going to offer dimension to your drink!
Chocolate Bars – Homemade hot chocolate is a lot richer in flavor than just a classic packet. Use milk chocolate bars that melt into the mixture.
Hot Chocolate Mix – The quality hot chocolate mix is important. As it is the main flavor you want it to be taste and a flavor you enjoy. Here is my homemade hot chocolate powder mix recipe. Don’t just use cocoa powder.
For a crowd I doubled the recipe!

How to Make Crock Pot Hot Chocolate
First: Combine the milk, cream, and vanilla. Sprinkle the hot cocoa mix on top and then add the chocolate bar pieces. Make sure to break the chocolate bars up into pieces.
Second: Stir to combine then place the lid on and allow it to cook on low for 2 hours. Or you can serve it sooner as long as the chocolate is melted and it is warmed through.
I do recommend stirring occasionally to ensure the ingredients mix well together.

Can I add milk to my crockpot?
You sure can add milk to your crockpot. You just want to use a low setting of heat, otherwise, you could scorch and burn your milk.
How long does it last?
Once your done making this creamy hot chocolate, you can store any leftovers in the fridge for 2-4 days. Just give it a good stir before serving to re-incorporate the flavors while reheating.
Is it better to make hot chocolate with milk or water?
For this crockpot hot chocolate recipe, I opted for whole milk. You will find using milk in hot chocolate allows for a richer flavor than hot water. But, there is debate on if water or milk is better.
Personally, we prefer milk. You don’t want to skimp on milk either. Whole milk provides way more flavor than skim milk would.
