ingredients for a nacho recipe

Ingredients Needed

Ground Beef – Use lean ground beef for best results. Also substitute ground turkey if desired.

Tortilla Chips – Use the regular tortilla chips and not the thin and crispy one. They will break and won’t hold up to the toppings!

Taco Seasoning – Feel free to use a package from the store but I prefer homemade taco spice!

Refried Beans – I use a standard 14 ounce can of refried beans. The recipe only calls for 1/2 the can mixed in with the beef so there will be leftovers.

Feel free to add more beans to the mixture if you prefer or save them for adding to the nachos later.

Cheese Sauce I like this melty, smooth, and creamy sauce for this recipe instead of shredded cheese melted on the chips.

Toppings – Diced tomatoes and sliced green onions. Makes it just like they do at Taco Bell!

How to Make Nachos Supreme

First: Combine ground beef, refried beans, taco seasoning, and water in a large skillet and cook over medium heat until beef no longer pink. Remove from heat and set aside.

Second: Place tortilla chips on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat oven to 400F. Spread nacho cheese sauce over chips and place in the oven. Bake for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Third: Remove from the oven, and add the seasoned ground beef and bean mixture in spoonfuls over the melted cheese.

Fourth: Top with diced tomatoes, sour cream, and sliced green onions. Enjoy!

Can I put the fresh ingredients on before baking?

Meat, beans, chips, and cheese are all delicious when they’re hot! So keep those ingredients together.

Fresh herbs, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, avocado, or anything else that is great cold, needs to stay cold. So save those ingredients until right before serving.

Tapas Tips & Tricks

  • You can use shredded cheese instead of the nacho cheese sauce, but I don’t think they taste like Taco Bell’s recipe that way.
  • Use refried black beans instead of regular if you like.
  • I like a homemade taco seasoning mix best but use your favorite!
  • Layer like a pro! One layer of toppings is good, but add a second or even third layer to make it great!
  • Make clean-up REALLY easy by lining your baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • I don’t recommend reheating leftovers, they will be soggy. Plus, they are easy to make fresh each time!

Note to self…Great nachos. Husband wants substitutes when I make it fir him…Use Frito brand cheese dip or homemade instead if shredded cheese, omit meat (bake kroger flautas instead) then layer as recipe calls for, adding quacamole and sour cream on top.

  2. These are delicious! I have made them twice for football game day & were devoured in no time. Love the combo of the refried beans being mixed into the meat mixture. A few modifications: I use the scoop tortilla chips because I can spoon the cheese & meat easily into each “cup”. I use nacho cheese queso instead of plain nacho cheese. I also add sliced black olives & jalapeños because we love them. I found that adding a few tablespoons of milk to the sour cream makes it much easier to drizzle all over. Thanks much for sharing this recipe.

  3. My family and I loved this recipe! I kept everything in the baking pan, and I placed it in the middle of the table and I let my family have at it. My husband and son devoured it! This was a WINNER! I will definitely make this again! Thank you

  4. It was good overall. I made the cheese sauce specific to your recipe and although it was tasty, I just didn’t like the texture. The refried beans are better off as it’s own layer .. didn’t really care for it mixed in with the meat during the cooking phase.

    – Again, still tasty but just needed a couple of tweaks.

    1. @Teona, Im sorry if you’re going to try a recipe take it for what it is, don’t adjust it and don’t bash the original person that posted the original recipe cuz you didn’t like it. Everyone has different tastes, and maybe we won’t like the way you did the adjusting of the original recipe. If you think you’re a better cook/chef than her than post your own recipes.

  5. The bake time and temp differ between the article and recipe, and the recipe doesn’t even include the beef on the nachos?
