Pizza Egg Rolls

Ah, pizza rolls….one of my all time favorite snacks. I love the perfect crunch of the egg roll wrapper filled with all of my favorite pizza toppings.

These pizza egg rolls are made to be frozen so you can fry them up today, tomorrow or anytime.

They will last in the freezer for up to 6 months, so this makes them a great make-ahead snack or the perfect party appetizer.

Similar to my Wonton Pizza Rolls, and these Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls, kids and adults will love them and will be asking for seconds. Double the batch of this easy recipe and you will always have homemade pizza rolls in your freezer ready to go.

These are perfect for game day or a potluck. Or, pair with a salad for a fun dinner that the whole family will love. If you like these, check out my cheeseburger egg rolls!

Ingredients Needed

Egg roll wrappers – Be sure to use egg roll wrappers and not won ton wrappers. I find these in the produce section of my grocery store.

Mozzarella cheese – You will need low moisture string cheese sticks.

Pepperoni slices – You can use regular pepperoni, mini pepperonis or turkey pepperoni. You could also use sausage or salami.

Marinara sauce – Choose your favorite brand of sauce or make your own homemade pizza sauce or Marinara sauce

Oil – I prefer peanut oil, however you can also use vegetable oil or canola oil.

Egg – One large egg is all you need.

How to Make Pizza Egg Rolls

First: In the center of an egg roll wrapper, on the diagonal, place 5 slices of pepperoni in the center. Top with a mozzarella stick. Brush the edges of the wrapper lightly with beaten egg.

Second: Fold the bottom corner up over the fillings. Fold over the sides to look like an open envelope. Roll up and seal completely. Continue with the remaining egg rolls.

Third: Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour. You can also, store them in a bag once frozen for up to 6 months.

Fourth: When ready to fry, heat some oil to 325F, in a deep pot, large skillet, or deep fryer, over medium heat. Fry 2-3 egg rolls at a time in the hot oil until crispy and golden brown.

Fifth: Remove and place on a paper-towel lined plate or cookie sheet. Repeat until all egg rolls are fried. Serve immediately with your favorite marinara sauce or pizza sauce. Also great with ranch dressing.

How do I freeze uncooked egg rolls?

The best way to freeze uncooked egg rolls is two-fold. First, freeze on egg rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper, making sure there is space in between.

After at least an hour, check to see if fully frozen and transfer to an airtight container or freezer bag. Egg rolls will last in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Can I air fry my pizza egg rolls?

Yes, use this recipe for the filling and assembly and then you can cook them using an air fryer. After preparing your egg rolls, lightly spray each one with oil.

Place egg rolls in the air fryer in a single layer with space between each egg roll. Cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or 15 minutes if frozen (time depends on your air fryer). Flip them halfway through cooking.

Air fryer pizza egg rolls are a great afternoon snack for the kids or a midnight snack for you!

Tapas Tips & Tricks

  • One package of egg roll wrappers will make a few batches of these. Store extras in the freezer!
  • To make assembly of the egg rolls easier, set all of your ingredients around a flat surface such as a cutting board or plate.
  • You can make smaller versions of these pizza rolls using wonton wrappers. This size would be perfect for a bite size appetizer. Simply reduce the amount of filling by half.
  • You can play with the ingredients in these pizza egg rolls. Omit the pepperoni to make cheese pizza egg rolls. Add sausage, mushrooms, black olives and green pepper to make supreme pizza egg rolls.
  • If you like it a little saucier, add a little extra sauce to the filling. A sprinkle of Italian seasoning and parmesan cheese would also add a little punch of flavor.
  • Peanut oil is recommended for frying your egg rolls because of its high smoke point. Vegetable and canola oils also have high smoke points and can be used for this recipe.
