Just a handful of ingredients and you are ready to go! Made famous in the state of Utah, this delicious sauce packs so much flavor, you will be loading up a plate of french fries just to eat it.

The original fry sauce sauce from a fast food chain in Salt Lake City and they stake their claim to it but it has really grown to be common all over the west coast of the United States.

Although the original recipe is a safely guarded secret, this homemade version is the best thing next to being in Utah.

So grab the simple ingredients needed, make a batch of this french fry dipping sauce recipe, and get to dippin’!

Some of my other favorite dipping sauces are my Mississippi Comeback Sauce, Bloomin’ Onion Sauce, and my Alabama White Sauce Recipe. All great for french fries, chicken tenders, and chicken wings.

Ingredients Needed

Mayo – Duke’s is my favorite as it’s super creamy. Use your favorite just not Miracle Whip.

Ketchup – Heinz is my go-to but if you’re a Hunts person that’s cool too.

Pickle juice – Plain old dill pickle juice. Nothing flavored like garlic or spicy.

Worcestershire sauce – Substitute coconut aminos or balsamic vinegar in a pinch.

Spices – Paprika, garlic powder.

How long does it last?

Fry sauce will keep in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a 4 days. Give it a quick stir before enjoying. I don’t recommend freezing it as it will separate when you thaw it.

Plus, it’s so easy to just whip up when you need some.

Is Fry Sauce just a Utah thing?

Yes, fry sauce is often associated with Utah and is considered a regional specialty in the state. It’s particularly tied to the fast-food chain Arctic Circle, which claims to have originated the condiment in the 1940s.

While everyone makes their own version of the sauce, Utah has a strongest claim to this specific combination of ketchup, mayonnaise, and other ingredients.

Is it the same thing as thousand island dressing?

Not exactly. They have the same base ingredients, but thousand island dressing usually contains chopped or diced pickles and onions for more of a chunky texture where fry sauce is smooth.
