Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots
These 3 ingredient bacon wrapped tater tots are super easy to make and disappear fast. Fluffy tater tots wrapped in crispy, smoky bacon, with a hint of brown sugar to balance them out. I can’t stop eating these!
If you are like me, every weekend is perfect for having friends over (or not) and snacking on appetizers. It doesn’t even have to be a game day, we do this when we watch a whole season of a Netflix show.
The best part of eating a mix of appetizers is that you get to have one or two bites of a bunch of different things. These bacon wrapped tater tots are one of my favorite apps to serve because they are so easy to make.
With just 3 ingredients, and food you probably already have in your fridge, they are ready to eat in no time. They are sweet and spicy with the brown sugar and a hint of black pepper. Not only that, but who can resist bacon?!? I know I can’t.
If you are a bacon lover like me, round out your appetizers with these bacon wrapped little smokies, bacon wrapped pickles, bacon wrapped shrimp, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, and even these bacon crackers!

Ingredient Notes
- Tater tots – Use frozen tater tots, sweet potato tots, or cauliflower tots.
- Bacon – I like to use regular applewood smoked bacon. Or try maple, and even peppered bacon for more spice. If you use center cut, it has less fat, but the slices are not as long so you will need more slices. Only cut them in half or they won’t wrap all the way around.
- Brown sugar – Use light or dark brown sugar. Don’t use white granulated sugar. It won’t taste right.

How To Make Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Slice each bacon strip into thirds using a sharp knife.

- Place each one on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with more brown sugar and black pepper.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with BBQ sauce on the side if you like.

Serving Suggestions
These sweet and sticky tots are perfect all on their own, but I can’t resist a good dipping sauce.
Some of my favorites with these are classic ranch dressing, honey mustard, bbq sauce, bang bang sauce, and even this blooming onion sauce.
I love these with my cheeseburger egg rolls, fried mac and cheese balls, and loaded potato skins.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
Reheat in the oven (or the air fryer) at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, or until crispy.
I don’t recommend microwaving them because the bacon can burn and the tater tots can explode when they heat up.
How do I keep them warm while serving?
You can put them in a crockpot on low, but you risk them getting soggy.
If you do this, I would place a layer of paper towels under the lid of the slow cooker to absorb any condensation. It will keep it from dripping back on the tots.
The best way I have found, is to keep them on a tray in the oven on the low or warm setting. Then bring out a few at a time or serve in batches.
Make Ahead Instructions
You can wrap these in advance, but I suggest only a few hours. Wrap and store in the fridge in an airtight container. Remove and bake as usual.
I’m sure you can wrap them and then freeze them but I haven’t tested this out yet. Let me know if you do and tell me how it goes!
Variations
- Swap traditional tater tots for sweet potato tots, zucchini, or cauliflower tots.
- Add some shredded cheese under the bacon.
- Wrap a thin slice of jalapeño under the bacon for a bold, spicy flavor.
- Season them with steak seasoning like these steakhouse tots before you wrap them in bacon.
Tapas Tips & Tricks
- Keep the tater tots frozen or they will fall apart when wrapping them. It’s ok to slightly thaw them so they are easier to handle but not too much.
- If you like them sweeter, add a little brown sugar on the bacon before you wrap the tots so the sugar is under and on top of the bacon.
- Place the tots with the seam of the bacon on the bottom. If it doesn’t stay closed, secure it with a toothpick. Just be sure to soak the toothpicks in water or they will burn with you bake them.
- If the bacon is extra fatty, or you want them crispier, I suggest cooking them on a wire rack on top of the baking sheet. This allows the fat to drip through and the air to circulate around the whole tot, making the bacon crispier.
