Blue Cheese Dip
This chunky blue cheese dip is rich, creamy, tangy, and filled with small bits of crumbled bleu cheese. Perfect for potato chips, french fries, and of course, chicken wings!

I can’t resist a good chicken wing. That is, if it’s extra crispy and I can add my own sauce to it. I can’t stand it when you order wings, they toss them in so much buffalo sauce that by the time they deliver them to the table, they are soggy. UGH!
Which leads me to my next thought. When you eat chicken wings, do you prefer ranch or blue cheese? I know that this is a hotly contested topic, even in my house.
You might think since I am a huge chicken wing fan, that I must be a blue cheese fan too. Well, I am not. Or, I should say, I WASN’T, until I made this dip.
I’m one of those that thinks blue cheese is strong, funky, and overpowers everything it touches. And in some instances, you might be right. But it’s all about the blue cheese itself and what you mix it with!
Whatever side of the ranch vs blue cheese debate you are on, you will come to love blue cheese after trying this dip!

Ingredient Notes
- Blue cheese – Since it’s the main ingredient in the dip, get a good one. After testing a few different ones, I prefer Danablu. But Gorgonzola or Roquefort work well too. For less in your face flavor, try Gorgonzola Dolce (Italian blue cheese) or Cambozola (a German mixture of Camembert and Gorgonzola)
- Greek yogurt – Use a plain yogurt that is thick. Feel free to substitute sour cream if you prefer.
- Lemon juice – I like to use fresh lemon juice because the flavor is better but feel free to use bottled or even lime juice.

How To Make This Blue Cheese Dip Recipe

- Place the majority of the blue cheese in a bowl.

- Using a fork, break it up into crumbles. Don’t mash too much because you want some texture.

- Add in the mayo, yogurt, and spices. Mix until combined.

- Stir in the remaining cheese crumbles. Chill for 30 minutes for best results.

How long does it last?
After you mix it together, keep it stored in the fridge until ready to eat. It will last in there, as long as it’s in an airtight container, for up to 5 days. Unless you eat it all before then!
And before you ask, I don’t recommend freezing it. All the dairy will separate when you thaw it and take on a grainy texture. Not fun at all.
Ways To Serve Blue Cheese Dip
If you’re wondering what to serve with it, I’ve got you covered. These are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy it, but if you have any other ways, leave me a comment below and let me know so I can try it too!
- Carrot and celery sticks
- Chicken wings – Plain or traditional buffalo wings taste best with blue cheese in my opinion!
- Buffalo cauliflower – For those who like wings but need more veggies!
- Sliced peppers – Colorful bell peppers are a nice change from celery and carrots.
- Potato chips – Crispy potato chips are delicious in this dip!
- French fries – I have a great buffalo fries recipe that you can add this too.
- Baguette slices or crostini – Think bruschetta. All by itself or top with olives, tomatoes, etc.
- Fresh fruit – drizzle it on strawberries and pears. You won’t be sorry!

Variations
- Cheese – If blue cheese is still way to strong for you, feel free to tone it down with some feta cheese or goat cheese instead.
- Mayonnaise – Being from the South, Duke’s is my favorite. Don’t use Miracle Whip!
- Yogurt – Try a thick sour cream if you don’t want to use Greek yogurt.
- Lemon – Switch up the lemon juice for distilled vinegar or sherry vinegar.
- Extras – Add a little Worcestershire sauce or a dash of hot sauce to add some kick or a smoky flavor to it.

What’s the difference between blue cheese dip and blue cheese dressing?
Not much, except the thickness. Dip, like this one, is thicker and made to stick to whatever you dip in it like cucumber slices and pita chips.
Blue cheese dressing is much thinner and made to pour out of a bottle and onto lighter ingredients like lettuce leaves in a salad.
The ingredients are pretty much the same, and in a pinch you can add milk or water to this dip and turn it into dressing.
Tapas Tips & Tricks
- Crumble most of the blue cheese for the dip but leave some out for garnish and to add some texture to the dip.
- Leave out the salt until you try the dip. Some blue cheese varieties can be very salty.
- I love garlic so sometimes I grate in some fresh garlic or sprinkle in some garlic powder.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley or sliced green onions for a pop of color.
