What is Chick Fil A sauce?

It’s only the best sauce from everyone’s favorite fast food restaurant! I mean they are FAST! And the food is amazing. I eat their chicken nuggets at least once a week.

Probably shouldn’t admit to that one. I usually have a kale salad with a few nuggets on the side. Their Polynesian sauce used to be my GO-TO dipping sauce but once I tried the house sauce I haven’t looked back.

Legend has it this delicious sauce was created when someone mixed equal parts of their ranch, honey mustard, and BBQ sauces. I am not sure we will ever know, but it doesn’t matter because it’s here!

This copycat chick-fil a sauce recipe is great with nuggets (of course!) but also works well with Chick Fil A Chicken Sandwiches, waffle french fries (or other fries), on burgers, shrimp, and even hot dogs.

simple pantry ingredients for sauce recipe

Ingredients Needed

Mayo – I prefer Duke’s mayo but use your favorite. I would not recommend using Miracle Whip as the flavor is much different.

Honey – I try and buy local honey when possible.

Dijon Mustard – This will add a nice flavor to the sauce that is unique so I wouldn’t skip this one.

Yellow Mustard – This has a nice tang but if you don’t have it, just add more Dijon.

BBQ Sauce – I use Sweet Baby Ray’s for this recipe but use your favorite. Just be sure it is a PLAIN bbq sauce or it will change the flavor profile.

Lemon Juice – Fresh is always best.

How long does it last?

Store your homemade chick-fil-a sauce in an airtight container for up to 1 week. But I don’t think it will last that long.

What kind of barbecue sauce do you use?

Use your favorite barbecue sauce brand but make sure that it isn’t a fancy flavored version. I use plain Sweet Baby Rays in this recipe.

What kind of mayo do you use?

Duke’s is my favorite because of the creaminess but you use your favorite. Just don’t use Miracle Whip as it is a technically a salad dressing and has other flavors mixed in with it and that will throw off the flavor profile of the sauce.

Tapas Tips & Tricks

  • Chill your sauce for an hour before serving to thicken up.
  • If you want that natural hickory smoke flavor, try a dash of liquid smoke.
  • Best thing about homemade is it doesn’t have corn syrup, soybean oil, or xantham gum unless you add it yourself.
  • Don’t have lemon juice? Try apple cider vinegar or distilled vinegar.
  • Too sweet? You can control the amount of honey to make it just right.
