Dunkaroo Dip Recipe

Do you remember the original Dunkaroos? Even though they started in the 80’s, they reached popularity in the late 90’s and early 2000s. Not to date myself here but…

When we were all kids, I’m positive you shared my same excitement when I saw my parents packed a sweet treat in my lunch. Then when I noticed it was a Dunkaroo?!

Everyone was wanting to trade for my yummy dip snack! Now that I’m older, I love pulling out this Dunkaroo dip recipe.

It is still one of my favorite childhood snacks that I eat as an adult. Simple ingredients, delicious and creamy, and topped with my favorite sprinkles. It’s not just me, the whole family loves it!

As soon as the serving bowl hits the table, I’ve noticed guests migrate right to this easy dessert dip. Then when guests realize this Funfetti dip is a Dunkaroo dip, everyone runs to grab an animal cracker or teddy graham!

Ingredients Needed

Box of Funfetti cake mix – Pillsbury gives the most authentic flavor but use what you have.

Frozen whipped topping – Thawed beforehand, use favorites like Cool Whip, Ready Whip, or Truwhip.

Vanilla yogurt – Substitute vanilla Greek yogurt if desired.

Vanilla extract – With a dash of vanilla extract, the dip will be fine to use natural or imitation.

Rainbow sprinkles – Use your favorite!!

How to Make Delicious Dunkaroo Dip

First: In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cake mix, cool whip, yogurt, vanilla extract, and half of the sprinkles. Spoon mixture into a cute serving bowl.

Second: Chill for at least 20 minutes to thicken, and garnish with remaining sprinkles. Serve with teddy grahams, animal crackers, graham crackers, or other favorite dippable cookies!

What cake mix is best?

Even though Betty Crocker is the mastermind behind Dunkaroos, I’ve noticed that the most similar flavor is actually Pillsbury cake mix! If gluten is an issue, reach for Pillsbury’s gluten-free Funfetti mix.

Of course a second best option would be Betty Crocker’s Party Rainbow Chip cake mix.

What are some good dippers?

This easy recipe wouldn’t be complete without talking about my favorite dippers! Some of the classics for Dunkaroos would be animal crackers, teddy grahams, or graham crackers in general.

However, don’t limit yourself! Other favorites include vanilla wafers, chocolate chip cookies, or fresh fruit.

How long does it last?

With any leftover dip, you should store it in an airtight container and leave it in the refrigerator until you are ready to snack. You can also store it in its serving bowl, just tightly cover with cling wrap before putting in the fridge.

Can I freeze it?

This delicious dessert dip could stay good for up to five days! Prior to serving, refresh the Dunkaroo dip with a quick stir and top with extra sprinkles.

What the risks of unbaked flour?

It is always important to be mindful of potential risks you are taking with recipes. Similar to uncooked fish in recipes or eggnog with raw egg, you run the risk of harmful bacteria like E. Coli with this recipe using unbaked flour.

Unbaked flour could potentially carry E. Coli so for extra precaution, you could bake your flour before preparing. Spread the white cake mix on a baking sheet and bake.

This dip should not be frozen to keep that creamy and smooth texture intact. However, with only a 25 minute prep time you don’t need to even worry about freezing it for a later date.

Tapas Tips & Tricks
