Sloppy Joe Garlic Bread
This Sloppy Joe Garlic Bread is a delicious twist on classic Sloppy Joes. This delicious twist on a family favorite is budget friendly, makes a filling appetizer, and is fun for a crowd. Great for using up leftovers too!
Sloppy Joe Garlic Bread
My mom used to make Sloppy Joe’s for me when I was craving comfort food, in a bad mood, or just wanted something fun and easy to eat.
She liked them because they were easy and cheap to make. Which is why I make these sloppy joe sliders and sloppy joe biscuit cups ALL THE TIME!
Fast forward to now when I am always looking for unique and fun appetizers to serve when I have friends and family over or celebrating game day. Why not turn a repurpose a classic into a new dish?
I’m taking the classic sloppy joe filling and spreading it on garlic bread and topping it with gooey melted cheese. Just like this cheesy olive bread!
Don’t tell me the whole family won’t love this, because mine sure does:)
Not to mention, you can serve it anyway you like! Spoon individual servings on garlic toast or serve a crowd with a fresh loaf of French bread with and your own garlic butter spread.

How to Make Sloppy Joe Garlic Bread
First: Remove the frozen garlic bread from the freezer and set aside to thaw slightly. Preheat the oven to 375 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Second: In a large skillet, cook the onion and ground beef with the butter until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat. Add the Manwich sauce, stir, and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Third: Carefully separate the halves of the frozen garlic bread. Place cut side up on the baking sheet. Divide the sloppy joe mixture between the two garlic bread halves and spread over the top.
Fourth: Cover each loaf with 1 cup of shredded cheese. Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted, the beef mixture is bubbly, and the garlic bread is toasty.
Remove and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve warm!

How long does it last?
Once you bake the garlic bread sloppy joes, cool to room temperature, and store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
I like to reheat mine in the oven or the air fryer to crisp up the bread again. And maybe add a little extra cheese on top:)
Sloppy Joe’s are the name of the sandwich itself. If you are wondering what Manwich is, it’s the canned sloppy joe sauce mixture that you combine with ground beef to make the filling for the sandwiches.
Can I make them ahead of time?
I wouldn’t make the finished dish ahead of time but you can prep ahead. Make the sloppy joe meat mixture, cool it down, place in an airtight container, and store in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Then, when ready to eat, place the mixture on the garlic bread, top with cheese, and bake.
Easy Weeknight Dinners
When I have a busy weeknight ahead, I am already looking for easy dinners and side dishes. French bread pizza, a skillet shepherd’s pie, or a sheet pan Greek chicken works as a main dish.
A pan of roasted veggies, some mashed potatoes, or a crisp green salad work as amazing side dishes for sloppy joe garlic bread.
Serving Suggestions
Serving this as an appetizer alongside a cool sour cream and onion dip, or everything bagel dip. Making it as a meal?
Traditional sloppy joes go great with French fries, potato chips, or tater tots.
You can even make sloppy joe breadsticks by keeping the meat mixture as a hearty dip for your favorite garlic breadsticks! That’s something even the kids will love.
Homemade Sloppy Joes
Don’t have Manwich or want to make the the tangy tomato sauce from scratch? I have a classic sloppy joe recipe that you can use.
Or make a sauce from scratch using a combination of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Tapas Tips & Tricks
- Make the meat mixture ahead of time for easier prep.
- Sprinkle in some of the best meatloaf seasoning for more flavor.
- Substitute the pound ground beef for ground turkey, ground chicken, or ground Italian sausage.
- Try it on French bread, a ciabatta loaf, and even garlic Texas toast.
- Use the frozen garlic bread slices to make individual open-faced sandwiches.
- Toss in some veggies like diced green bell pepper or mushrooms.
- I like cheddar cheese but if you want to take an Italian twist on this, add some Italian seasoning and use mozzarella cheese.
