Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375 F.
Cut slider buns and place bottom buns on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
Over medium-high heat, cook the onions and ground beef in a large skillet. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are soft.
Add in the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion and garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Cook a few minutes until the sauce thickens a little and comes together.
Remove from the heat and set aside.
Spread some cheese on the slider bun bottoms.
Spread on the beef mixture in an even layer.
Top with remaining cheese and cover with top buns.
Melt the butter in a bowl. Stir in the Italian seasoning.
Brush or evenly pour on the slider bun tops. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over them.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown.
Remove and let cool for 1-2 minutes. Serve warm!
Notes
Use lean ground beef or substitute ground turkey.
Add in some green bell peppers for extra veggies.
Drain excess grease to keep them from getting soggy.
Add spice to the homemade sloppy joe sauce with red pepper flakes, chili powder, or cayenne pepper.
For a smoky joe slider, swap the ketchup for barbecue sauce.
Try different cheeses like mozzarella, Monterey jack, or American cheese.
Instead of sesame seeds on the tops of the buns, try poppy seeds.
Let the sliders rest after baking for a few minutes to set.
Try other toppings like diced jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms, crispy onions, or caramelized onions.
